Welcome back to antoher week full of movie news here at Moviemind! We kick of this week with the latest from Chris Morgan, the screenwriter behind “Fast & Furious.” According to MTV Movies Blog, it seems as if you speed freaks will get a refill in the not so far future. The fourth and most recent outing in the franchise, reunited the two actors for the first time since the original movie, despite both of them having individually appeared in different installments in the property. With the unexpectedly huge opening box office of $72.5 million, it seemed pretty much a no-brainer that the finely tuned film franchise would be back for a fifth installment. As Morgan says, “a fifth movie is not only a no-brainer, but it’s close to a green light.”
“It seems like there will definitely be another one,” Morgan says. “I just got out of a lunch with Universal, just pitching the story around. We were figuring out if we do another one, and what it would be. It has to come from the characters, so where are these characters after this film — what are they doing?”
And if a fifth “Fast & Furious” film gets the official go-ahead, fans of the franchise can certainly expect another reunion with the two leading men — Morgan maintains that another outing would undoubtedly put Paul Walker and Vin Diesel back in the drivers seats.
“We had been talking about their reunion as early back as ‘Tokyo Drift,’” Morgan said. “I knew I always wanted to revisit those characters, and I think the audience did, too. That’s what makes ‘Fast & Furious’ so cool. Not only did it happen to a subculture — and it’s easy to write the first movie off as a subculture that got exposed, and it’s true, but it’s more than that — they also did a great job with characters who you want to like and who you want to follow.”
Hey, why not? More racing, more adrenaline and more… Vin and Paul. Bring it on!
