I was just over at Dark Horizons and they had a little interview with scribe Kevin Williamson about the upcoming Scream trilogy. To begin with Williamson totally dismisses the rumors that actor Jamie Kennedy would reprise his role of Randy in the upcoming fourth film.

Williamson, says that “We’re not that movie. We’re not that universe where you can bring people back from the dead. That would be just a cheat. It’s such a disservice. Everyone’s like, ‘When’s Randy coming back?’ I’m like, You know what? I would love nothing more than to have Jamie Kennedy in the film. However to have Randy in the film, it sort of just takes it… I mean ‘Scream 2‘ was a lie, you know? It’s a false move. So I just won’t do it. I can’t do that. I just won’t do it.”

Williamson also confirmed that this upcoming film is indeed the first in a potential trilogy: “There’s three. I am contracted for 4, 5 and 6, but the deal for 6 is not done. I mean I pitched three films. The story is about returning to Woodsboro“.

So what would the next ones be about? “5 will be a continuation of 4, but 4 is its own movie. It has a beginning, a middle and its own ending, which will be satisfying hopefully. It has a beginning, middle and end and 5 has a beginning, middle and end; it’s just a continuation of the lives of all the people that live in 4. I can’t start giving 5 away – that gives up too much of 4” says Williamson.

The lensing of “Scream 4” is set to begin this summer and it’s scheduled for release April 15th 2011.

Ghostface: Name the killer in Friday the 13th.
Casey: Jason! Jason, Jason!
Ghostface: I’m sorry. That’s the wrong answer!
Casey: No, it’s not. No it’s not. It was Jason.
Ghostface: Afraid not. No way.
Casey: Listen, it was Jason! I saw that movie 20 goddamn times!
Ghostface: Then you should know that Mrs. Voorhees was the original killer. Jason didn’t show up until the sequel.
Casey: [Weeping] You tricked me…
Ghostface: Lucky for you there’s a bonus round, but poor Steve… I’m afraid he’s OUT!

I was just over at Dark Horizons and apparently director Joss Whedon is reportedly in final negotiations to direct the superhero team-up movie “The Avengers” for Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures.

Also, two characters from the upcoming movie may be making earlier appearances… According to a trusted source, a scene about Captain America and Thor will appear after the end credits of “Iron Man 2” – much like the way Nick Fury made a camera in a post-credits scene at the end of 2008′s “Iron Man“.

Could we see two hunky guys named Chris – Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth – in full costume? Unlikely. The crucial wording here is that it’s a “scene about” the two characters meaning one or both may not even pop up on screen but rather merely referenced.

Production would begin sometime next year for release May 4th 2012.

Just got this fresh from IESB.net. There have been endless discussions and rumors over the years. Well, more or less since “Independence Day” (1996) first came out. But now it seems as if it’s finally going to happen. “Independence Day 2.” Or “ID4 2.” Sexy name… Anyway, Fox have made no qualms about wanting an ID4 sequel. The problem is various nails in the road have stopped that from happening. For one, producers/writers Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich cooked up a story but at the time decided they weren’t ready to return to that world just yet.

More recent, Emmerich told Latino Review Fox just wasn’t willing to cut their teeth over the list price for one Will Smith. Being the only movie-star in the world (an actor who guarantees asses in seats), Smith gets $20 million up front plus first dollar gross. That alone has stopped the studio cold from moving forward. Until now it seems.

IESB has received a tip that Will Smith is now locked for not only “Independence Day 2,” but also a third installment. The plan would be to shoot both films back-to-back. Whether the studio opts to go the “Matrix” route and release the two films six months apart or do like the “Pirates of the Caribbean” sequels and split them by a year remains to be seen. According to our sources, if all goes according to plan, the sequel(s) could shoot as early as 2011.

Still, this is all unconfirmed facts and until Fox verifies it… it’s speculations and rumors. IESB claims to have gotten this from an reliable source so hopefully it’s just a matter of time before we can move this from the rumors cabinet to the facts archive.

I just barely recuperated from the whole “Spider-Man” incident and now I’m faced with another “let’s make reboot and cast a younger actor“… Hey, guess why the films were such a hit? Mainly 3 important factors: the script, the director and the cast. Without either one of the 3 ingredients missing out, I wouldn’t be writing this ’cause “Spider-Man 2” and “Spider-Man 3” wouldn’t have been made in the first place.

Anyway, Speaking at the UK premiere for “Invictus“, actor Matt Damon said that instead of another sequel, Universal’s lucrative “Bourne” franchise may get a prequel/reboot revolving around a young Jason Bourne. Dark Horizons tells us Damon said that “There will probably be a prequel of some kind with another actor and another director before we do another one, just because I think we’re probably another five years away from doing it – we’ve got to get a script.”

As previously reported, the series has hit major stumbling blocks of late with director Paul Greengrass having exited the project and a lot of talk of script problems. Despite Damon’s comments, a prequel to the series followed by a sequel to ‘Ultimatum’ seems extremely unlikely.

Ultimately the studio will choose one or the other. The sequel is looking more and more uncertain due to many issues. The prequel/reboot would be ideal for the studio cost/control-wise but story wise is impractical as it would have to be set in the character’s pre-Treadstone Green Beret days (i.e. before he became ‘Jason Bourne’).

The other concern is that people associate Damon and Bourne as one and the same. Hey, guess what – that also goes for Tobey as “Spider-Man“…

OK, here we go – rumors and speculations extravaganza! We’re always a bit hesitant to reporting “news” that feels a bit shaky but… Something tells us this might have some truth to it. Anyway, Latino Review posted a little outtake from a brief interview with Tobey Maguire. It goes something like this:

Which director would you like to work with next? Tobey’s answer?
“Guillermo del Toro.”

Know what else Tobey said?
“We may have something here in the near future.”

Aha… Could Peter Parker be playing Bilbo Baggins? Yes, apparently he’s in the early stages of talks between CAA and the producers of the Hobbit film to topline as Bilbo Baggins! But, right now it’s just that – a dialogue taking place between the respective parties. Tobey hasn’t been cast and an offer hasn’t been made.

But wasn’t Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5 supposed to shoot back to back? How would he find the time? But according to a source inside Sony, the films are not shooting back to back. So technically, Tobey is available after shooting Spider-Man 4 which is slated to begin shooting Winter 2010. The first Hobbit film is slated to start shooting mid-summer 2010.

A star like Tobey Maguire would make sense and provide a comfort zone, because both The Hobbit films are going to be very expensive. And there is now way they are shooting The Hobbit films with a complete unknown playing Bilbo. So sure, the Tobey rumor isn’t that unlikely. The future will tell…

Let’s talk some more about “Spider-Man 4” shall we? No matter the superhero franchise, when it comes time to make a sequel, people mainly want to know one thing: Which villains will be in it? The rumors are endless and the latest word from the trades is that John Malkovich is to play Spider-Man’s nemesis. I know, not what you would have expected… If negotiations proceed according to plan, Malkovich will be playing The Vulture, who packs a punch despite his advanced age. The Vulture is able to fly through the air and brandish his sharp wings to attack Spider-Man.

Now, to spice things up, Movieline reports that Anne Hathaway, the 27-year-old actress is currently the top choice for Black Cat (Felicia Hardy), who’d been long-rumored as one of the new characters in the fourth installment. However, unlike in the comic books, this Felicia Hardy doesn’t transform into the Black Cat. Instead, Sam Raimi’s Felicia will become a brand-new super powered figure called the Vulturess.

What does this mean for Dylan Baker, who’s patiently played Dr. Curt Connors in the last two installments? As much as it would seem that the series is setting up his eventual transformation into supervillain The Lizard, we hear that the suits simply can’t bring themselves to sign off on such an odd-looking enemy — instead, they’d rather hew closer to villains with a human face.

Too bad for Dylan!

Today we will deal with one of the recent casting rumors floating around. Understandably, this one got a lot of air under its wings because of the massive fan base. I’m talking about the fourth installment of Spider-Man. Sam Raimi has managed to make the cinematic version almost as big as the original comic version. And that ain’t no small achievement. Many have tried and failed before. We have come to love the characters, and the romance between Spidey (Tobey Maguire) and Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) makes you warm and fuzzy inside. Well sort of…

Anyway, Last week’s online talk of Rachel McAdams auditioning for the role of The Black Cat in the fourth “Spider-Man” drew a lot of chatter. Now Dark Horizons reports that McAdams comment to this was “That’s a total rumor, I have to say. I was hanging out in Toronto the other day and someone came up to me and said, ‘I just heard you’re doing Spider-Man 4.‘ And I said, ‘Really? No one told me!’ It’s not true.”

And to add to that a Sony Pictures spokesperson said “It’s an Internet rumor, as so many things are these days“, effectively killing the story right there. Is that the end though? For now the McAdams talk is over, the actress and a spokesman have officially denied it and unless there’s actual hard proof of her involvement then there’s no story.

So there you have it. The McAdams-as-The Black-Cat-rumor is squashed.

There is much talk about the upcoming James Bond film right now. It’s that time of year I guess… The latest buzz is about Bond’s nemesis, Ernst Stavro Blofeld, and the fact that he may be making a comeback according to The Guardian.

Now, 28 years after his last official appearance in “For Your Eyes Only” (1981), James Bond’s deadliest foe could be set for a return – in the fresh-faced form of actor Michael Sheen. The script is being co-written by Peter Morgan, Sheen’s long-time collaborator, who has already worked with him on the likes of “The Queen“, “Frost/Nixon” and “The Damned United“.

“Michael is hot property right now and it is felt that he’s the right man to bring Blofeld back to life,” an unnamed source told the Daily Express newspaper. “Michael was a Bond fan in his youth, so this would be a dream role for him.”

The sinister chieftain of the global criminal organisation Spectre, Blofeld has appeared in six James Bond outings and has been interpreted by a variety of actors, including Donald Pleasence and Telly Savalas. In popular imagination, he sports a scarred face and a shaved head and is never seen without his beloved white Persian cat.

Over recent decades, however, Blofeld has proved a more fitful and elusive presence. He was briefly resurrected by the Swedish actor Max von Sydow in 1983′s unofficial Bond adventure “Never Say Never Again” and provided the inspiration for Dr Evil, the cackling, accident-prone baddie from the Austin Powers comedies.

As I recall, Blofeld was dropped down a giant chimney the last time we saw him. How did he get out of that little predicament?

I was over at Movieweb and they had just posted an interview with producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form about their entire slate of upcoming projects. The biggest news to come out of the article was the fact that “Friday the 13th II” will take place in the snow. There’s something magical about Jason Voorhees… Isn’t it? I grew up watching his adventures around Crystal Lake. Almost brings tears to my eyes. Anyway, apparently Jason is going to have a snowball fight… “We want to have fun. We want to present something that audiences haven’t seen before. One of the things they haven’t seen before is Jason in the snow. They haven’t seen that before. Our goal is to bring them things they haven’t seen.”

Another question asked was about the rumor about making “Friday the 13th II” in 3D. “The financial ramifications of doing a film of that budget in 3D are huge. Its not like they are going to say, ‘We want you to make a sequel. Here is twice as much money.’ It doesn’t go that way. All of our movies are about the exact same budget. I guarantee if we make that movie, it will be the same budget as the original. If its six or seven million dollars more, they will probably opt out. Unless something unexpected happens, it will not be in 3D. Though we would love to make a 3D horror movie. I just don’t think they will throw the money our way. And I don’t think we have the time to be ready for it.”

What about a release date? “We don’t have a script for Friday the 13th II, it is not greenlit. If it does get greenlit, and we are able to mount it in a reasonable amount of time, we will have the film opening on August 13th of 2010. I can tell you this. The movie will not entirely take place in the snow. I don’t want to go to Winnipeg and shoot this whole movie in the snow. We did that once, and we are never going to do it again. If we make this movie, we need to do it quickly. We need to shoot it before the winter does come. The date is going to be summer.”

Hopefully that little interview gave you some answers, my dear readers. Personally I’m a bit dubious to seeing Jason runnin’ around in the snow. Sure, blood on white snow is very graphic and almost aesthetic but other then that… I don’t know. Jason is a summer guy. He is at his best during those hot clammy nights when the poor teenagers feel the need to undress and maybe take a little swim in… Crystal Lake… The big question everyone should ask themselves (especially smart people) is why the citizens living around Crystal Lake keep taking camping trips, vacations and other outdoor activities in and around Jason’s “hunting zone”? All that killing, for all those years? Sure, once in a while someone claims Jason is dead but then he kills 15 people again. (He has been resurrected ten times…) It’s been many years since I watched one of the “Friday” movies, so I’m a bit uncertain to how this topic was dealt with (if it was?). As a writer, I would at least try to answer one or two logical questions surrounding these movies. I found a website called Legends of Horror and they claim Jason has killed 174 people and counting. 174!? I would shut down the whole State! Send in the military turn that place upside down (and inside out).

Anyway, the next adventure will have some snow in it. And I guarantee the bodies while continue to pile up.

“There’s been some talk. Ridley Scott, Ridley is right now working on Robin Hood, but I think he’s toying with the idea and that would be great for us. I mean, it’s always been a matter of, really, if you can get the originator to do it that would be the greatest thing, so I’ve got my fingers crossed, all of them.”

Ridley Scott doing a Aliens prequel? That would be… AMAZING! I’ve got all my fingers and my toes crossed. I suggest you do the same.
