The guys and girls over at Dark Horizons just announced the release date for a real blockbuster – Sony pictures have informed the press that the third installment of “Men in Black” will be released on May 25th, 2012.

Will Smith has signed on to return as Agent Jay and Tommy Lee Jones is in advanced negotiations to return as Agent Kay in the film which Sony confirmed will be in 3D. Josh Brolin is also in talks to play the younger version of Kay.

Ouch, I feel for Peter Berg – and even though I’m sure his film will be excellent the MIB franchise is a one big, anticipated mother of a… well, let’s just say MIB has a strong following. But then again, maybe the two can coexist during the first weekend…

I was just over at Empire and apparently they’ve got the latest on the ever circulating rumours about yet another Rambo movie. We’re now at number 4 and if another one goes in to production it would most certainly be referred to as “Rambo V” (for those of you not keeping count…) So, when Empire spoke to Sylvester Stallone they took the time to ask him for the definitive take on the fifth big-screen adventure. His answer? It’s not going to happen at all.

“I think Rambo’s pretty well done. I don’t think there’ll be any more. I’m about 99% sure,” said Stallone, which comes as something of a surprise. After all, “Rambo V” was considered to be something of an inevitability after the last movie, the ultra-violent “Rambo,” made $113 million worldwide in 2008. But “The Expendables” has made Sly think long and hard about his future; and Rambo doesn’t feature in it.

“I was going to do it,” he said. “I said I’d never talk about this, but with I feel that with Rocky Balboa, that character came complete circle. He went home. But for Rambo to go on another adventure might be, I think, misinterpreted as a mercenary gesture and not necessary. I don’t want that to happen. I’m very happy with the last Burmese episode, because I didn’t pull any punches on it,” he continued. “I wanted it to be what civil war really is – rough. You can’t candy coat it, and where do you go from there?”

Stallone’s not done with Rambo completely, though. He told Empire that he’s at work on a director’s cut of Rambo which will restore twelve minutes to the movie, including a surprising outburst of loquaciousness for the mumbling man of action at the movie’s beginning.

“He does a speech at the beginning of the movie to Julie Benz where he lays out why his life has been a complete disappointment and why war is natural and peace is an accident,” added Stallone. “And how he just feels that his life has been a waste. It’s very important to hear that and I didn’t think so at the time. I’m going to go back and put in some stuff.”

I was just over at Dark Horizons and they had a little interview with scribe Kevin Williamson about the upcoming Scream trilogy. To begin with Williamson totally dismisses the rumors that actor Jamie Kennedy would reprise his role of Randy in the upcoming fourth film.

Williamson, says that “We’re not that movie. We’re not that universe where you can bring people back from the dead. That would be just a cheat. It’s such a disservice. Everyone’s like, ‘When’s Randy coming back?’ I’m like, You know what? I would love nothing more than to have Jamie Kennedy in the film. However to have Randy in the film, it sort of just takes it… I mean ‘Scream 2‘ was a lie, you know? It’s a false move. So I just won’t do it. I can’t do that. I just won’t do it.”

Williamson also confirmed that this upcoming film is indeed the first in a potential trilogy: “There’s three. I am contracted for 4, 5 and 6, but the deal for 6 is not done. I mean I pitched three films. The story is about returning to Woodsboro“.

So what would the next ones be about? “5 will be a continuation of 4, but 4 is its own movie. It has a beginning, a middle and its own ending, which will be satisfying hopefully. It has a beginning, middle and end and 5 has a beginning, middle and end; it’s just a continuation of the lives of all the people that live in 4. I can’t start giving 5 away – that gives up too much of 4” says Williamson.

The lensing of “Scream 4” is set to begin this summer and it’s scheduled for release April 15th 2011.

Ghostface: Name the killer in Friday the 13th.
Casey: Jason! Jason, Jason!
Ghostface: I’m sorry. That’s the wrong answer!
Casey: No, it’s not. No it’s not. It was Jason.
Ghostface: Afraid not. No way.
Casey: Listen, it was Jason! I saw that movie 20 goddamn times!
Ghostface: Then you should know that Mrs. Voorhees was the original killer. Jason didn’t show up until the sequel.
Casey: [Weeping] You tricked me…
Ghostface: Lucky for you there’s a bonus round, but poor Steve… I’m afraid he’s OUT!

I was just over at MTV Movie News and read that fifteen years after the first “Bad Boys” film, the “Boys” are back in town — and that talk of a third installment is very real. “It’s real realistic,” Martin Lawrence revealed recently, addressing rumors that he’ll re-team with Bay and the former Fresh Prince once again. “We’ve talked about ‘Bad Boys 3.’ ”

When Michael Bay made the original film, he was a video director looking to break through in Hollywood; now, he oversees massive productions of films like the “Transformers” movies. Back in 1995, Will Smith was slowly overcoming his teen-oriented-rapper stigma as the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” TV show was winding down and small movies like “Six Degrees of Separation” were earning him decent reviews; nowadays, he is arguably the most bankable movie star in the world. Some would wonder why outlandish-but-effective detectives Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett would pop up again now, when the “Bad Boys” talents each have successful careers of their own (Lawrence just opened “Death at a Funeral” this past weekend). According to Martin, however, the time to reunite is now.

“Any time you can get Big Willie to come out and talk about doing a third installment of a hot movie like ‘Bad Boys,’ you have to take notice,” Lawrence explained. “I met with Michael Bay, and he said he’s on board too — so it’s real.”

Writer Peter Craig is putting together a script for Columbia, and the “Bad Boys” team is ready. “I got Big Willie to come down and see me about the movie. I felt special,” Lawrence said of a visit Smith paid to his friend recently to talk about getting the band back together, adding that at this point, the green light is in the hands of the franchise producer. “We’re just waiting on Jerry Bruckheimer to let us know when it’s really real.”

So, hopefully we will get to see Burnett and Lowery doing their stuff in the not so distant future. We’ll keep you posted.

I was just over at Dark Horizons and apparently director Joss Whedon is reportedly in final negotiations to direct the superhero team-up movie “The Avengers” for Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures.

Also, two characters from the upcoming movie may be making earlier appearances… According to a trusted source, a scene about Captain America and Thor will appear after the end credits of “Iron Man 2” – much like the way Nick Fury made a camera in a post-credits scene at the end of 2008′s “Iron Man“.

Could we see two hunky guys named Chris – Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth – in full costume? Unlikely. The crucial wording here is that it’s a “scene about” the two characters meaning one or both may not even pop up on screen but rather merely referenced.

Production would begin sometime next year for release May 4th 2012.

Dark Horizons reports that Universal Pictures and Working Title are assembling a sequel to the spy comedy “Johnny English.”

The 2003 James Bond satire had Rowan Atkinson starring as an inept British Intelligence worker called into service after every secret agent in the country is wiped out in an explosion at a funeral. He soon uncovers a plot by French prison entrepreneur Pascal Sauvage (John Malkovich) to steal the British Crown Jewels.

The original cost a modest $40 million and even though it flopped in the U.S. ($28 million), it did very well overseas with a global $161 million haul. Oliver Parker is on board to direct with the budget expected to be around the same. The move is seen as an example of the struggling studio’s new plans to avoid high-cost, high-risk fare.

Hamish McColl penned the screenplay.

Filming kicks off in August.

Just got this fresh from IESB.net. There have been endless discussions and rumors over the years. Well, more or less since “Independence Day” (1996) first came out. But now it seems as if it’s finally going to happen. “Independence Day 2.” Or “ID4 2.” Sexy name… Anyway, Fox have made no qualms about wanting an ID4 sequel. The problem is various nails in the road have stopped that from happening. For one, producers/writers Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich cooked up a story but at the time decided they weren’t ready to return to that world just yet.

More recent, Emmerich told Latino Review Fox just wasn’t willing to cut their teeth over the list price for one Will Smith. Being the only movie-star in the world (an actor who guarantees asses in seats), Smith gets $20 million up front plus first dollar gross. That alone has stopped the studio cold from moving forward. Until now it seems.

IESB has received a tip that Will Smith is now locked for not only “Independence Day 2,” but also a third installment. The plan would be to shoot both films back-to-back. Whether the studio opts to go the “Matrix” route and release the two films six months apart or do like the “Pirates of the Caribbean” sequels and split them by a year remains to be seen. According to our sources, if all goes according to plan, the sequel(s) could shoot as early as 2011.

Still, this is all unconfirmed facts and until Fox verifies it… it’s speculations and rumors. IESB claims to have gotten this from an reliable source so hopefully it’s just a matter of time before we can move this from the rumors cabinet to the facts archive.

The people over at Dark Horizons reports that actor Viggo Mortensen and director David Cronenberg could be re-teaming for a fourth time, though in a way many didn’t expect.

The pair first teamed on 2005′s acclaimed and multi-award winning “A History of Violence” which pulled in $60 million worldwide.
Now “Eastern Promises” screenwriter Steve Knight has penned a sequel with Viggo Mortensen set to reprise his role as Russian mafia hitman Nikolai and Cronenberg seemingly set to direct. Focus Features hopes to get the film into production by the end of the year, but it would have to be after Cronenberg’s “The Talking Cure” which Mortensen signed onto earlier this month. ‘Cure’ begins shooting May 17th.

Apparently the writers put in not only many little nods to the original “Conquest of the Planet of the Apes” from which much of the premise is based, but quite a few to the original 1968 “Planet of the Apes“.

The general story has a doctor trying to find the cure for Alzheimer. After his research is shut down, he takes home and raises Caesar, the child of his most promising chimp experiment subject. Caesar continues to evolve and soon leads an army of apes in an uprising around the same time humanity is hit by a catastrophe.

One of the more interesting touches are numerous references to the launch and disappearance of the Icarus led by Colonel Taylor, the lead character and ship which crashed on the future Earth in the original 1968 ‘Apes’. The other is that the cataclysm that hits humanity ties in to the genetic mutation and explains not just how the apes evolve enough to lead an uprising, but why the apes in the original series looked nothing like the modern apes of today.
