Welcome back to another fine week here at Moviemind. I’m gonna kick off the Monday with some vampire-ish movie news. Moviemind is of course, as always, a big fan of horror and any movies with some connection to vampires or werewolves is almost guaranteed to get a post here. So, the theme of the day – vampires. Screendaily.com reports that producer Edward Pressman and director Mary Harron are teaming up for the first time since “American Psycho” (2000) on the Gothic horror “The Moth Diaries.”

Lily Cole and Scott Speedman will star. Now, all you horror fans will most surely recognize Speedman’s name. That’s right – Scott Speedman gets two thumbs up from Moviemind. Not is he just participating in this little vampire story but he is very much so a part of the Underworld franchise AND he starred in “The Strangers,” which is one of the most… uncomfortable movies I have seen in a long time. He should be bronzed in the horror hall of fame.

Anyway, a late summer shoot in Montreal has been lined up for the story based on author Rachel Klein’s cult novel about an elite New England boarding school where a mysterious young girl arrives amid a spate of campus deaths.

Harron adapted the screenplay, which Pressman called “very smart, very visual, very feminine yet very powerful.” “This is a chillingly atmospheric horror story with real emotional depth,” Harron said. “I’ve tried to stay true to Rachel Klein’s novel in the way it re-works and updates the Gothic tradition and the whole notion of girl-on-girl Vampires.  Lily Cole is a very talented actress and… I’ve long been a fan of Scott Speedman.”

Sound very interesting and Moviemind will keep an eye on the project – that’s a promise.
