Cruise and Washington are teaming up

Here’s an interesting on screen duo. According to Dark Horizons big time movie star Tom Cruise is in talks to star opposite another superstar: Denzel Washington in “The Matarese Circle.”

The pair will play two bitter enemy spies who, after spending two decades trying to kill one another, find themselves in the crosshairs of the Matarese, a powerful group at the root of a conspiracy. I get a tiny, tiny bit of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” reading this but… I’m sure this is something completely different.

David Cronenberg is helming the adaptation of the thriller by the late author Robert Ludlum (“The Bourne Identity“), while Derek Haas and Michael Brandt adapted the script which contemporizes the original Cold War premise.

A 2010 release is expected.
