Despite the fact it’s Monday, I’m feeling rather positive. And when I’m feeling relaxed and comfortable like this I tend to get a little on the notalgic side. I think back and smile at the memories of movies that made an impact, in one way or antother… On that note I would like to slide over to todays news. Today it’s remake-day. To me, this is a very special remake since the original really shook me up. Terry O’Quinn was (is) fantastic as the “Stepfather“. One of the creepiest characters ever.
Anyway, Variety.com reports that Dylan Walsh, Sela Ward and Penn Badgley are set to star in “The Stepfather,” a remake of the 1987 thriller.
Apparently the remake is going to be more of a Hitchcock-style thriller than the original. Now, being a big fan of the original I get this why-fix-it-if-it-isn’t-broken vibe… But that’s just me.
Story centers on a teenage boy (Badgley) who discovers his soon-to-be stepfather isn’t all he appears. In fact, the man who fell in love with his mother (Sela Ward), might be a psycho who murdered his previous family.
“Nip/Tuck” star Dylan Walsh plays the title role originated by “Lost” star Terry O’Quinn.
Production is aimed to start in March or April.
My final thoughts? Totally unnecessary remake. The original “Stepfather” is a brilliant movie. Terry O’Quinn is great in the movie. Sure, it’s nice, I guess, that Hollywood honours the movie with a remake but… why?
