Elijah hopes to play Frodo once again

The epic three-volume novel by J. R. R. Tolkien sort of defined my view on the fantasy genre. I remember taking on the massive books with mixed emotions. And even though I sometimes felt overwhelmed by the share weight of his work I couldn’t stop reading. I was very moved, as we all were, by these magical books. But even though they never really faded from the back of my mind, I had almost forgotten about them when “the word” was out about the coming adaptation by Peter Jackson.
I was somewhat sceptical to the movies and I couldn’t really decide if I should see “The Fellowship of the Ring” when it first came out. But my curiosity and my general love for movies lured me to the movie theater. I don’t regret that decision. Let me just point out that no director can truly make a fair interpretation of Tolkiens books. We, the readers, have made our own versions inside our heads and the version Peter Jackson made was his, and the people involved in the project.
I love Jackson’s adaptation. It’s a slice of moviemaking history and I look forward to the day when I can introduce my kids to magical world that Tolkien created and Peter helped to visualize.
On with the story: Dark Horizons reports that when actor Elijah Wood was asked about his potential involvement in the Peter Jackson-produced “The Hobbit” and its sequel, Elijah said:
“I haven’t spoken to Jackson directly about it but I’ve e-mailed him, and as far as I know, the two films that they’re doing, one will be ‘The Hobbit’ and another will take place between the 60 years that happened between ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’.”
So would he come back? “If I’m asked to go back and revisit that character and it makes sense, I would love to. I would absolutely love to.”
He freely admits though that his role would likely be limited – “I can’t imagine that they would write great reams of information regarding my character. But if Frodo should show up, it would actually be the perfect way to revisit because it could be small enough that I could go back and have a nice sort of reunion with the memories that I have of the experience.”
