Friday the 13th II

I was over at Movieweb and they had just posted an interview with producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form about their entire slate of upcoming projects. The biggest news to come out of the article was the fact that “Friday the 13th II” will take place in the snow. There’s something magical about Jason Voorhees… Isn’t it? I grew up watching his adventures around Crystal Lake. Almost brings tears to my eyes. Anyway, apparently Jason is going to have a snowball fight… “We want to have fun. We want to present something that audiences haven’t seen before. One of the things they haven’t seen before is Jason in the snow. They haven’t seen that before. Our goal is to bring them things they haven’t seen.”
Another question asked was about the rumor about making “Friday the 13th II” in 3D. “The financial ramifications of doing a film of that budget in 3D are huge. Its not like they are going to say, ‘We want you to make a sequel. Here is twice as much money.’ It doesn’t go that way. All of our movies are about the exact same budget. I guarantee if we make that movie, it will be the same budget as the original. If its six or seven million dollars more, they will probably opt out. Unless something unexpected happens, it will not be in 3D. Though we would love to make a 3D horror movie. I just don’t think they will throw the money our way. And I don’t think we have the time to be ready for it.”
What about a release date? “We don’t have a script for Friday the 13th II, it is not greenlit. If it does get greenlit, and we are able to mount it in a reasonable amount of time, we will have the film opening on August 13th of 2010. I can tell you this. The movie will not entirely take place in the snow. I don’t want to go to Winnipeg and shoot this whole movie in the snow. We did that once, and we are never going to do it again. If we make this movie, we need to do it quickly. We need to shoot it before the winter does come. The date is going to be summer.”
Hopefully that little interview gave you some answers, my dear readers. Personally I’m a bit dubious to seeing Jason runnin’ around in the snow. Sure, blood on white snow is very graphic and almost aesthetic but other then that… I don’t know. Jason is a summer guy. He is at his best during those hot clammy nights when the poor teenagers feel the need to undress and maybe take a little swim in… Crystal Lake… The big question everyone should ask themselves (especially smart people) is why the citizens living around Crystal Lake keep taking camping trips, vacations and other outdoor activities in and around Jason’s “hunting zone”? All that killing, for all those years? Sure, once in a while someone claims Jason is dead but then he kills 15 people again. (He has been resurrected ten times…) It’s been many years since I watched one of the “Friday” movies, so I’m a bit uncertain to how this topic was dealt with (if it was?). As a writer, I would at least try to answer one or two logical questions surrounding these movies. I found a website called Legends of Horror and they claim Jason has killed 174 people and counting. 174!? I would shut down the whole State! Send in the military turn that place upside down (and inside out).
Anyway, the next adventure will have some snow in it. And I guarantee the bodies while continue to pile up.

Actually, Jason has only been resurrected from really being dead since the previous movie in parts six, seven and eight, and in Freddy vs Jason.
