Gosling to co-star in The Lovely Bones

One of my favourite movies is “The Believer” (2001) starring Ryan Gosling. Since then I have a sweet spot for Ryans work. He’s truly one of the best actors of his generation. Remarkable actor.

So, of course I was thrilled when I read (The Hollywood Reporter) that Ryan has signed on to co-star in Peter Jackson’s “The Lovely Bones“. I wrote a piece about “The Lovely Bones” about two weeks ago but at that point Ryan wasn’t on board.

The story is told through the voice of Susie Salmon, who is murdered but continues to observe her family on Earth after her death. Removed from the world she once knew, Susie witnesses the impact of her loss on her loved ones, while her killer skillfully covers his tracks and prepares to murder again.

Gosling will play Susie’s father, Jack Salmon. (Rachel Weisz will play the young Susie’s mother.)

The casting is truly coup for Jackson because Ryan Gosling has become one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood. The Canadian-born actor is one of the most selective in the business and has eschewed several big-budget studio films.

The plan is to start shooting “Lovely Bones” in October 2007.
