John C. ReillyMan oh, man… did I have a hard time getting up this mornin’? It’s like my body was convinced it was Saturday but my brain tried to persuade the flesh it was Friday. Needless to say, it was a real battle but as always, the brain won… But hey, it’s Friday, that ain’t too bad. And what could possibly be better then the latest news about John C. Reilly on a Friday? Nothing!

Dark Horizons reports that John C. Reilly, Josh Hutcherson and Chris Kelly are in negotiations to star in Universal’s “Cirque du Freak“.

An adaptation of Darren Shan’s children’s book series, the story follows two best friends (Hutcherson, Kelly) who visit an illegal freak show.

There they encounter a vampire and a giant deadly spider which forces them to make life-changing choices. One of them is turned into a half-vampire and becomes not only a servant, but the catalyst in a battle between vampires and the rival Vampanese. Reilly would play Larten Crepsley, the centuries-old vampire and owner of Madame Octa, the spider.

Paul Weitz is directing and wrote the latest script draft. Shooting is slated to begin in February.

Now, John C. Reilly as an old vampire – that’s just full of potential! I just wish they could throw in Will Ferrell as an evil Vampanese…
