Joshua “Pacey” Jackson to play Fletch

Let’s start of the week with really, really scary rumor… Unfortunately, according to IESB, this is more then a rumor. Apparently they were informed last thursday by reliable source that a director and a star had been signed on for the “Fletch Won” prequel long in the making. (Fletch Won has been wallowing in development hell for years with past attachments of Kevin Smith, Jason Lee, Zack Braff, Bill Lawrence and many more.)
Steve Pink will be taking the helm with (here it comes, drum roll): Joshua Jackson set to star in the role made famous by Chevy Chase. That’s right, Joshua Jackson, freakin Pacey, is playing Fletch.
Joshua Jackson is most known for his role as Pacey opposite Katie Holmes (Mrs. Tom Cruise) in Dawson’s Creek. Jackson has been rumored for a few weeks on the IMDB boards, but now there are indications that it’s official.
Steve Pink was behind the Justin Long college comedy Accepted in 2006 and wrote the screenplays for both John Cusack flicks Grosse Pointe Blank and High Fidelity.
Fletch Won tells the story of a young Fletch on his first story. When the man Fletch is about to interview turns up dead, Fletch takes it upon himself to figure out who killed him.
I assume most of you, my dear readers, know that Fletch was made popular by the brilliant comedian Chevy Chase back in the ‘80’s. I also assume (I know, assumption is the mother of all…) that you agree with me that Pacey can’t walk in Chevy’s shoes. No way. That’s just insulting. Couldn’t they at least have picked a actor with some tiny, tiny sense of comic timing? I just don’t get it.

The movie is a prequel to the original so Josh isn’t replacing anybody.
Joshua Jackson has a great sense of comic timing and he’s a really talented actor. He can also do the physical type of comedy, which not many actors can. I just caught him on a SNL repeat not too long ago and thought he was great. Perfect dry wit.
He’s got the requisite sexy charm, too. I met him once in LA and he’s well over six feet. Tall drink of water and very well-spoken and intelligent. There were a few women in the room close to swooning. But he’s been with actress Diane Kruger for over a year now.
LOVE, love, love Josh Jackson. Can totally see this with his sense of sarcastic humor.
Technically, you are right. It’s a prequel, not a sequel. But since Fletch IS Chevy Chase, at least if you were a teenager during the 80′s. And maybe Josh is sexy… he may even be smokin’ hot. But from a guy perspective – he’s… Pacey. About his comic skills and humor… Let’s just agree on that we all have a strong opinion on the matter.
“But from a guy perspective – he’s… Pacey.”
Not a very persuasive argument, with all due respect.
Sounds like you have your mind made up based on a teen drama he attached himself to ten years ago, which is fine. But what actor doesn’t have something like that in their past? Leonardo DiCaprio got his start on Growing Pains, for cripes sake.
Josh Jackson is very much like a young George Clooney, both in looks, charm and, yes, humor. We’ll agree to disagree because that’s subjective, but his main purpose on Dawson’s Creek was to be the funny sarcastic guy and many people thought he did it very well.
I’m all for him getting his shot at a big role because I always thought he was the best thing about his TV show and equal in talent to Michelle Williams.
If you can get past a role Josh played as a teenager and get over a role Chevy played in the 80s than I say give him a chance to prove himself.
Why all talk abuot Pacy? Joshua zuckz! Dawson creak zucks!
Thank you Juno… that was a nuanced and insightful comment…
(Get ready, here it comes…) NOT!
