The lack of fresh ideas and the general strategy to play it safe in Hollywood is in no way just a trend. It’s a lifestyle. The studios wants guarantees and the closest they can come to that is to remake, reboot and… re-anything basically. The latest great idea is to reboot the 90′s horror hit “Scream.” Now, Being a big fan of Wes Craven’s masterpiece (and Kevin’s smart writing) I’m not saying it’s a horrible idea. But it just feels a little… dry?

Anyway, EW.com reports that Courteney Cox and David Arquette in discussions for a “Scream” reboot. The word is that the original franchise is being remade into a whole new set of movies, starting this fall. Writer-director Kevin Williamson has been working on a trilogy that will bring back many of the characters from the original movies.

Apparently Williamson has approached Courteney Cox and David Arquette to return. Deals have yet to be signed, however, as all involved try to hammer out potential scheduling conflicts that could arise now that Cox’s pilot “Cougar Town” was picked up by ABC. No word on whether Neve Campbell’s character, among others, will make the cut.

We all love the original trilogy, it was horror history. But a new trilogy? So soon? I don’t know…
