McConaughey as Captain America

Matthjew McConaugheyToday I was thinking – “Isn’t it time for some superhero-news?” Sorry, just kidding. I know, the movie industry is pumping out superhero movies like there’s no tomorrow… But, I feel obligated to give you the latest, even if my stomach gets extremely upset when I see a guy in a cape…

Cinema Blend reports that Matthew McConaughey is rumored to be the front runner for Marvel’s early 2011 superhero project “The First Avenger: Captain America“. Of course, physically it’s a no-brainer. I’m actually surprised no one has cast him as a superhero until now. Matthew is built like Greek God. There is no doubt that McConaughey will look good in his outfit. At first though, we may get to see him as Steve Rogers, a sickly young man that gets enhanced by an experimental serum in order to aid the United States war effort during the Second World War. How old is Captain America anyway?

The character remains one of the few of Marvel’s most popular characters yet to have been turned into a feature film. In many ways it still faces much difficulty due to the nature of the uber-patriotic character in a modern post-Iraq world which has become far more critical of America’s involvement on the global stage than ever before.

There’s a lot of people bashing Matthews acting skills and honestly I can’t really see his acting flaws. He might not be “the best of the best” but Hollywood is filled to the brim with good (not Edward Norton-great or… Ryan Gosling-great) actors. I can easily name a whole bunch of actors that should have finished law school (or whatever they were doing) instead of pursuing their acting career…
