National Treasure just got upgraded

I just read some interesting news over at Variety.com. Well, interesting if you, just like me, are into Bruckheimer-nobrain-blockbuster-movies. Anyway, Oscar winner Helen Mirren apparently is the latest addition to Disney’s action-adventure sequel “National Treasure: The Book of Secrets“. To really stir things up Ed Harris is also on board. Mirren will play Emily Appleton, Gates’ mother. Harris plays the bad guy.

The cast is of course led by Nicolas Cage, who reprises his role as the treasure-hunting Ben Gates. Seriously, Cage will have a hard time getting noticed between Ed Harris and Helen Mirren. Both of ‘em can outplay Cage without breaking a sweat.

Sequel takes up as Cage’s character hopes to discover the truth behind the murder of Abraham Lincoln by tracking down missing pages from the diary of assassin John Wilkes Booth.

The big premiere is scheduled to take place december 21st, 2007.
