Open WaterYesterday, at lunch, me and some colleagues from work were talking about the movie Open Water. This movie obviousely made an impact on the viewers. Even though most people (all?) thought it was kind of… bad? (Poor script and the level of acting. Well, maybe the acting was the only good part…? In it’s defense this movie is not a “actors movie”. It doesn’t have alot of Oscars moments.) But the projected feelings, the anxiety, the fear… The loss of hope when she ultimately learns, accepts that she is gonna die. Alone. In open water.

Anyway, I just read that Open Water director Chris Kentis is reteaming with producer Laura Lau for an untitled thriller. MovieWeb reports that the script follows the plight of a young woman who is arrested for a crime she didn’t commit. She is suddenly plunged into a world of confusion and terror as she tried to defend herself in the American judicial system.

John Lesher, a rep for the duo, says: “Chris and Laura have the ability to tap into viewers’ fears and anxieties and create scenarios that are truly terrifying in their realism.”

With all respect to Chris Kentis, but I hope that Lesher isn’t trying to compare situation of being arrested for a crime you didn’t commit with the “open Water” scenario? That’s like comparing apples and cars.

Still, it’ll be interesting to see the outcome. The film goes into production during the early months of 2008.
