Rachel WeiszVariety reports that Rachel Weisz is set to star in “The Lovely Bones,” the Peter Jackson-directed adaptation of the Alice Sebold novel. Passing up the third installment of “The Mummy” turns out to have been a pretty good move for Rachel Weisz…

“The Lovely Bones” is a supernatural drama based on a book by Alice Sebold. In it a 14-year-old girl is raped and killed. Her spirit is unhappy with this, and hangs around to keep watch over her family and her killer. Rachel Weisz will play the young girl’s mother.

Jackson wrote the script with his “Lord of the Rings” scripting partners Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh.

The production is scheduled to begin in October. The actual shooting will take place in Pennsylvania and New Zealand. That’s good news if you’re a Peter Jackson fan (and Rachel Weisz fan)  since it means that a year from now you will be sitting in a theater somewhere enjoying (hopefully) “The Lovely Bones”.
