My dear readers, today I bring you some serious remake-news. Dark Horizons reports that David Ondaatje has signed on to make his directorial debut on a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s first film, “The Lodger,”.
Marie Belloc Lowndes’ original novel was based on the true story of the hysteria caused by the Jack the Ripper’s killing spree that took place during the later half of 1888.
David Ondaatje adapted the screenplay which re-imagines the story as an urban thriller set in contemporary Los Angeles, and follows the uneasy relationship between a psychologically unstable landlady and her enigmatic lodger.
A secondary plot involves a troubled detective engaged in a cat-and-mouse game with an unknown killer.
Now, this is what I call a remake! The original movie was made in… 1927! I welcome the remake. Now I must hurry and see the original. Judging by comments and user ratings on IMDb it deserves a screening.
