Ryan Gosling as Jack Ryan?

Ryan GoslingRemember the character Jack Ryan? Played first by Alec Baldwin in “The Hunt for Red October” (1990) and then by no other then Harrison Ford in “Patriot Games” (1992) and once again in ”Clear and Present Danger” (1994). Then something strange happened and Ben Affleck got the part as Jack Ryan in “The Sum of All Fears” (2002).

And now the torch is passed (possibly and hopefully) to Ryan Gosling.  Apparently Fernando Meirelles is the front runner to direct the movie titled “By Any Means Necessary”. Even though the character is based on Tom Clancy’s novels the film, however, will not be based on a Ryan book, and will follow the young CIA analyst caught up in global political events. As I just mentioned, the always brilliant actor Ryan Gosling is the front runner to play the character.

Fernando Meirelles is the acclaimed helmer of Brazillian movie “City of God“. It’s his work on the lauded but unconventional “The Constant Gardener“, an adaptation of author John Le Carre’s tale of international corruption, that looks to have lead to his name being linked to the project.

Unfortunately neither Meirelles or Gosling has signed anything as yet so this is just rumors and speculations.
