Even though I’m as easy as everyone else when it comes to sequels, I must say that nowadays it’s almost hilarious… It’s all about sequels, prequels and remakes. That’s it. I was under the impression that there is a heap of talented (and well paid) writers in Hollywood. There must be some original ideas flying around…? Ok, I’m glad I got that of my chest – on with the news:
Dark Horizons reports that John Singleton has come aboard to direct Fox’s big screen adaptation of 80′s TV classic “The A-Team“.
The original show concerned an unofficial team of Vietnam vets wanted by the military for a crime they didn’t commit who helped the innocent.
The new “A-Team” will be updated from the Vietnam era and reflect contemporary issues and politics. Tone of the film will be less cartoony and more serious, in the vein of “Die Hard” and “Lethal Weapon.”
Show creator Stephen J. Cannell says that “not to denigrate the TV show, but nobody ever died,” Cannell said. “We drove cars off cliffs and people got out and walked away. We’re not going to do that (in the movie). In this the tone is more dangerous — you can really die. It’s very tense and exciting.”
Just a reflection here; According to Stephen J. Cannell, the original show was kind of lame because nobody ever died. And in this new movie adaptation people will die and that will make it exciting. Did I get that right? That logic worries me…
