Being a bit nationality biased (go Sweden!) this little piece made me look twice. According to Anne Thompson’s column, Quentin Tarantino and Brad Pitt will re-team (they just finished “Inglorious Basterds“) for a new project – this time based on the ‘Millenium’ trilogy of books by the late Swedish novelist Stieg Larsson.
In article talking about the bitter dispute currently going on over Larsson’s inheritance between his family members and his long-term partner, The Times talked with his father and brother who said “We are inundated with requests for permission to make plays and cartoon strips out of Millennium. Quentin Tarantino and Brad Pitt would like to buy the rights for a remake of the film. We want her opinion”
The first of the trilogy, “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo“, follows a journalist and his young female hacker who’ve been hired to write the history of the wealthy Vanger family, though secretly are in search of the truth behind the disappearance of 16-year-old Harriet Vanger some four decades earlier.
That book was already adapted into the Swedish film “Män som hatar kvinnor” which scored very good reviews earlier this year. The other two books in the series have quickly been adapted with much of the same cast and crew members as the first and are also due for release this year.
