The HobbitI’m guessing most of you are just as curious as I am about what is happening with the adapation of J. R. R. Tolkien’sThe Hobbit“. Well, Guillermo del Toro spoke with TheOneRing.net about that yesterday and I’m here to give you goodies. Fans of Tolkien and fantasy lovers in general – this one is for you:

Dark Horizons tells us that In January, when it was announced that New Line Cinema was moving forward with plans for two films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit”, there was alot of excitement. Peter Jackson would produce and Guillermo del Toro was the favorite to direct.

Then the Tolkien Estate filed a lawsuit against New Line Cinema, whilst New Line found itself being folded back into its parent company Time Warner. That left many asking what would happen to the films and are they still going ahead? Despite the legal issues to be sorted, word is that Warners is very keen to move forward with these films. Guillermo del Toro himself is taking the job very seriously.

When speaking with TheOneRing.net, Guillermo said – “At this stage anything I say is of no consequence for I am not yet signed to do ‘The Hobbit.’ Negotiations advance but are still ongoing. All I can say is that I am diligently going through all Tolkien material related to Middle-earth but only as a way of bridging a gap in my reading. I still respond the strongest to ‘The Hobbit,’ but as an avid reader of Mythology I find a lot of his other writings fascinating. A perfect Cosmology forged from very eclectic sources.”

To sum it up – del Toro wants to do the job but at this point it’s a guessing game because of the lawsuit. Of course, then there’s a possibility that Time Warner might have another helmer in mind… Time will tell.
