The Punisher reboots itself

The PunisherHi and welcome back everyone! I hope you had great weekend. Thought I’d kick start the week with some action news: Dark Horizons reports that director Lexi Alexander recently gave an update on her next project, the upcoming “Punisher” sequel entitled “The Punisher: War Zone“.

Alexander confirms that they’re not skimping on the violence – “it’s definitely going to be a hard R” – and the action is “about 70% gunplay, and 30% hand-to-hand combat.” More interesting is that this is not being treated as a sequel to the recent Thomas Jane-led ‘Punisher’, but a reboot much like the upcoming “The Incredible Hulk“.

I would say it’s a complete different re-boot, just because neither one of the previous films were relevant. And with Castle, it’s one story — the mythology stays the same — and I think I just have a very very different take on it. I was lucky to put it in the right environment, which was dark and cold” says Alexander.

The story has former FBI agent Frank Castle arriving in New York to take on a underworld boss who plots to take control of the underworld.

The film will hit theaters September 2008.

Personally, I liked (can’t really say why…) the old “Punisher” (1989) with Dolph Lundgren. Even though it sucked in so many ways it kind of… worked.
