Update on The Stepfather

The StepfatherAs I said - it’s either sequels or remakes. Once in a while an original concept reaches the audience but these days it’s all about handing us familiar characters in new situations. Or new actors, trying to squeeze something new out of a well known situation.

A couple of months ago I posted about the remake of 1987 horror thriller “The Stepfather“. Back then “Nip/Tuck” star Dylan Walsh had just been cast to play the title role (the stepfather himself, that is…) originated by “Lost” star Terry O’Quinn. Now it seems as if more parts have been cast. Dark Horizons reports that Jon Tenney, Amber Heard, Paige Turco, and Braeden LeMaster have all joined the cast.

Tenney will play a father trying to reconnect and protect his teenage son, played by Penn Badgley. Heard will play Badgley’s girlfriend. Sela Ward is already on board as Tenney’s ex-wife, whose soon-to-be husband (Dylan Walsh) might have murdered his previous family.

Shooting is scheduled to wrap April 15th.

Even though we all enjoy a remake once in a while it’s frightening when the film studios tries to remake perfection. I’m not saying the original “Stepfather” was the movie of the century but Terry O’Quinn kind of nailed it back in the 80′s. His portrait of a demented killer is… timeless and untouchable.
