Today is one of those days I wish I didn’t write about movie news. Sometimes the news isn’t good. Sure, I’m not posting about something as tragic as someones death or anything but the hard truth coming from a respectable actress is sometimes… depressing. Of course I’m talking about the extremely anticipated fifth “Alien” movie. The movie that never will be made. We, the fans, have desperately longed for it since 1986. Sure, part three and four gave us a dose of that sci-fi horror we all love but the they are not the real thing. Even though part 1, Ridley Scott’s “Alien” (1979) is completely different from Cameron’s sequel “Aliens” (1986) they are both fantastic movies. They tell a dark, gripping story from two different angles. Made by two of the best directors in movie making history.
I won’t even comment on the “Alien vs.” movies…
And there have been rumors for several years now. Both Cameron and Scott have made some statements that made it clear that there is a possibility of a fifth part in the Aliens saga. But with this recent comment from Sigourney Weaver I believe all hope is gone.
Apparenlty Sigourney recently revealed that the rumors were true – she had definitely considered making another “Alien” movie with director Ridley Scott.
“The last time Ridley and I saw each other we talked about it. The character is still interesting and I’d love to work with Ridley again. But Fox has effectively killed it because of ‘Alien vs. Predator.’ What else can you do with the creature? You can take the situation, you can go back to where they came from. To play someone who ages a couple hundred years was fascinating. But let Ripley rest.”
If Weaver says it’s time to let Ripley rest, it’s time for us all to let the hope of a fifth movie go to rest.
