Whitaker, Ferrera and Mencia are going down the aisle

The nice people over at Variety had a interesting post today which mentioned one of my favorite actors. Forest Whitaker. What a man! What an actor! I watched the old classic (?) “Panic Room” (2002) the other weekend and as soon as Mr. Whitaker appeared in front of the camera the movie became so much more interesting. It’s his presence. The intensity and the authenticity. He’s hypnotizing to watch. Truly a great actor.

Anyway, Whitaker, America Ferrera and Carlos Mencia have signed on to star in an yet untitled family wedding project for Fox Searchlight.

Described as a clash-of-cultures comedy, story centers on two overbearing fathers (Whitaker, Mencia) who must put aside their differences to plan the wedding of their son and daughter (Ferrera) in less than two weeks. Some of you might recognize the name America Ferrera but can’t really connect the name to a face – or place. Well, Ferrera plays the title role in the ABC series “Ugly Betty.” That’s right, the girl with the braces.

Lensing begins next month in Los Angeles.
